JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JUNE 3, 2025 – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is accepting Source Water Protection Project Grant applications from eligible public drinking water systems through Aug. 15, 2025.
The grant offers up to $25,000 to eligible community water systems that produce all or a portion of their drinking water from a raw water source, such as groundwater, lakes or rivers. Source water protection plan implementation projects and source water protection plan development or revision projects are eligible for funding.
Implementation projects are for eligible applicants that have a source water protection plan with a current department endorsement. These may include activities and best management practices to achieve action items, goals or objectives documented within an existing protection plan. Approved activities may also include outreach or educational activity coordination, or other efforts that advance the plan’s goals.
Development projects are for eligible applicants seeking to develop an original, local and voluntary source water protection plan. Others may wish to revise or update an existing plan that has an expired department endorsement. These projects require the water system to submit a new or revised plan to the department for approval prior to being reimbursed for eligible project activities.
Th department will competitively rank and award in priority order completed applications it receives by June 30. If any funding remains, the department may award completed applications it receives from July 1 through Aug. 15, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The department is committed to helping Missouri communities protect their drinking water sources and protect human health.
