JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 15, 2025 – Missouri Department of Natural Resources Director Kurt Schaefer today announced Art Goodin has accepted the role of director for the Division of Environmental Quality. Goodin assumes the role effective immediately.
“Art brings 23 years of environmental science experience to his new role,” said Schaefer. “His background in both the public and private sectors will serve him and the agency well as he moves into directing the Division of Environmental Quality.”
“Leading a team of dedicated and service-oriented professionals in managing Missouri’s natural resources is both a great opportunity and challenge,” said Goodin. “I’m looking forward to supporting the work our team does for Missourians.”
Goodin has served as deputy director for MoDNR’s Division of Environmental Quality since January 2022. Prior to that, he was director of the division’s Southeast Regional Office where he managed a team charged with protecting environmental quality in 24 counties.
Goodin began his career with the department at its Southeast Regional Office in Poplar Bluff in 2002, working in various roles in clean water, drinking water and as an Environmental Emergency Response State On-Scene Coordinator prior to becoming regional director. He also brings private sector experience managing environmental compliance at manufacturing facilities to his new role.
“This is a critical position within our agency,” said Schaefer. “I’m very happy Art has agreed to serve in his new role.”
Goodin replaces previous Division of Environmental Quality Director Kyra Moore, who was promoted to deputy department director in April 2025.
